Author: BJ Welch

The Blakesburg and Fremont 3rd through 6th graders write poetry during

February. They have to use their Google Docs to write their poems. After

their poems are finished, they share them with Mrs. Welch in the library.

When Mrs. Welch receives all their completed poems she looks them over

and then prints them off. She fills out the required paperwork and sends

them in to the Young American Poetry Digest contest. The poems are then

read by a panel of educators which evaluate the overall quality of the poem

based on the student’s age and grade level and determined by:

 - Creativity

 - Age-Appropriate language

 - Sensory/figurative images

 - Structure

 - Poetic techniques.

After their parents sign the consent form these poems will be published in the 2024 Young American Poetry Digest Poetry Book.

These are the students whose poem was chose;
