Carter Claver

Carter Claver, EBF graduate of the class of 2024, passed unexpectedly July 3, 2024. His life was celebrated by the Claver family and community at the funeral on Monday, July 8. Below is an article from Mrs. Rachel Tague, who worked closely with Carter the last two years as his one on one paraeducator.

Carter Delgene Claver was a one of a kind guy. He forever changed anyone’s life who came in contact with him. I got to work with Carter during his last two years of high school. I honestly was nervous to start with him. I didn’t know much about him other than he was nonverbal and in a wheelchair. What was this kid going to do? How were we supposed to do school work? I quickly learned he was so smart, so funny and sometimes rotten. Carter was so sharp with his eye gaze device. He could answer questions with it, ask for things and very easily talk back and forth with it. He enjoyed talking about his family and his animals. A memory that always makes me laugh is when he told Mr.Hansen that his class was boring. Carter enjoyed being in the classroom with his classmates and listening to their conversations. Whenever he heard something that he thought was amusing he would laugh. Carter had a laugh that was contagious too. It always made others around him laugh.

But the one thing that makes me so proud of our school was the way others treated Carter. He was always involved in whatever was going on in his classes. It was never a bother or a problem. Carter was respected and beloved in our community. Carter was a pretty awesome guy. I was lucky enough to be able to work with him, but even more to call him my friend.
